Leavenworth man gets 11-plus years in prison for deaths of two pedestrians

A Leavenworth County judge on Wednesday sentenced Millard E. Wilkens, 39, to 138 months in prison for running down two people who were walking home from an Eagles Club.

Wilkens had pleaded guilty in the deaths of Teresa McMillian, 58, and Lewis “Buddy” McMillian, 62, on the morning of Nov. 20. A witness said a vehicle approached the McMillians at high speed and struck two mailboxes on Cherokee Street in Leavenworth before hitting the couple and then a utility pole. The driver then fled on foot.
