Man, 5-year-old die in Eudora crash
Two people, including a 5-year-old, died this afternoon in a traffic wreck near Eudora, Kan.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a car driven by Ryan Pittman was headed east on Kansas 10 and crossed the median near Church Street. Pittman’s car struck a westbound minivan head-on. The wreck happened about 3:30 p.m.
Pittman, 24, of Eudora, died at the scene. He was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt.
The 5-year-old, Canen Shutt, was one of four people riding in the minivan. Canen was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.
The minivan driver, Danny Basel, 57, and passengers, Courtlyn Shutt, 23-months, and Deborah Basel, 51, were all transported to area hospitals for injuries. All occupants of the minivan were from Eudora and had been wearing seatbelts, according to a patrol report.
