Student from Gardner dies in Pittsburg wreck

Twenty-year-old Gardner resident Matt Wright was killed early today in a two-vehicle accident in Pittsburg, Kan.

Wright, who was a sophomore in mechanical engineering technology at Pittsburg State University, was dead at the scene.

According to a statement from Pittsburg Police Maj. Brent Narges, Wright was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 and failed to yield to another vehicle before crashing into it and rolling over.

The other vehicle was driven by 65-year-old Mattie Swanson, of Jasper, Mo., who was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Another man, Nicholas Mauszychi, 20 of Gardner, was also transported. The two other occupants of Wright’s truck, from Olathe, refused medical treatment.
