Blue Springs man killed in motorcycle crash

A 23-year-old Blue Springs man died Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a trailer being towed by a truck.

Derek A. Burchett died from injuries suffered in the 12:30 p.m. crash along U.S. 69 about 10 miles south of Louisburg, Kan., in Miami County.

Burchett, who was riding a motorcycle, was headed north at a high speed when he overtook a truck pulling a trailer. He collided with the trailer and was thrown from his motorcycle, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

He was not wearing a helmet, according to the highway patrol.

The driver and passenger in the truck were not injured.
