Three people injured in a crash on Interstate 72

Three people were injured this morning in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 72, about two miles east of Interstate 55.

Timothy R. Lanham, 19, of Wood River, was east on the interstate around 8:45 a.m. He was passing another vehicle when he became districted and veered toward traffic. He overcorrected, and lost control of the vehicle, Illinois State Police said.

The car left the roadway to the right and struck a tree. Lanham and two passengers had to be rescued from the heavily damaged vehicle by firefighters.

The two passengers were Barbara E. Lanham, 47, of Wood River and Brian J. Lieber, 19, of Godfrey.

All were taken to St. John’s Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Buffalo/Mechanicsburg police, officers from the Illinois Secretary of State Police as well as Sherman and Riverton firefighters helped at the scene.
