Clinton County wreck kills Edgerton, Mo., couple

Two people were killed and two others injured when a tractor-trailer and a car crashed about 6:15 p.m. Thursday near U.S. 69 and Missouri 116 in Clinton County, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.

Officials identified the dead as Larry R. Cockriel, 66, and his wife, Carol J. Cockriel, 66, both of Edgerton, Mo.

Larry Cockriel was driving three passengers, including his wife, in a 1995 Honda Accord when the wreck happened.

According to the highway patrol, the driver of a northbound tractor-trailer failed to obey a stop sign at Missouri 116, and Cockriel's eastbound Accord crashed into the side of his trailer. Larry and Carol Cockriel died at the scene. Both surviving passengers, a 15-year-old girl and a 59-year-old woman, were taken to Kansas City area hospitals with serious injuries.

Missouri 116 and U.S. 69 intersect about four miles east of Lathrop.
