Cameron man charged with murder in traffic death

CAMERON, Mo. | A northwest Missouri man is charged with second-degree murder after a fatal accident that police say involved drunken driving.

DeKalb County Prosecutor Eric Tate on Thursday also charged 31-year-old Frederick W. Thornton with armed criminal action, driving while intoxicated as a chronic offender and leaving the scene of an accident.

Thirty-one-year-old Laura J. Fisher died on Jan. 28 when her vehicle collided with one driven by Thornton in Cameron. Police say Thornton ran a red light before the accident, then fled the scene on foot.

The St. Joseph News-Press reported that in 2007, Thornton pleaded guilty to felony drunk driving and was sentenced to four years in prison.

Thornton is being held in the Daviess DeKalb Regional jail.
