Man hits woman with chain on bus in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS • A disturbance by an unruly rider on a Metro bus Wednesday night man left a woman passenger bleeding from a head wound after he swung a heavy chain at her, police say.

Police say the incident began just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when the 59-year-old man boarded a bus at West Florissant and Thrush avenues. He began yelling at the woman passenger, 49.

Another person hit the man who was yelling, so the man grabbed a heavy chain and swung it at the person who hit him -- but the chain struck the woman instead.

The woman suffered a cut on her head. Police said her injury was not life-threatening. She was treated at a local hospital.

The man with the chain was arrested. No charges have been filed yet in the case. Police have not released the names of the suspect or the woman.
