A crash involving four vehicles on Interstate 72 near the MacArthur Boulevard exit caused traffic backups on the highway Wednesday afternoon.
Illinois State Police said four vehicles were traveling in the right lane of I-72 eastbound at 4:50 p.m. As the vehicle in the front of the line was slowing due traffic congestion, the vehicle that was fourth in line struck the vehicle in front of it, causing a chain-reaction, rear-end crash.
Names of the drivers were not immediately released. Two of the drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. The other two refused treatment.
The eastbound lanes of I-72 were shut down during the investigation.
