Crash injures passenger
A 28-year-old Springfield man faces a possible charge of second-degree assault after the Chevy Blazer he was driving on West Kearney Street near Robberson Avenue on Wednesday afternoon jumped a curb, hit a utility pole and rolled three times, causing a passenger to suffer a broken leg, according to Springfield police. The injured passenger was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lt. Scott Leven. The driver faces charges because he was impaired while driving and a passenger was injured in a crash, Leven said. The crash caused a brief electric outage when a transformer on the utility pole was damaged, police said.
