One person died and eight others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night on U. S. 60 in Winona, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Ben W. Kapp, 16, of Winona, died in the 6:35 p.m. crash at U.S. 60 and Road 601.
Robert D. Koehler, 16, also of Winona, was flown to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield in serious condition.
Kiresten Loneman, 12, Jade Roberts, 13, Calvin L. Wood, 32, Destiny Wood, 14, Jasmine Wood, 12, Kayden Wood, 2, and Melissa Wood, 33, all of Willow Springs, were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View with minor injuries.
The crash occurred when a southbound 1997 Dodge truck driven by Koehler pulled out in front of an eastbound 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Calvin Wood.
Wood’s vehicle hit the Koehler’s pickup truck, which overturned as Kapp was thrown out and came to rest on its top. Wood’s vehicle stopped in the grass on the south side of the road.
All of the injured children were in Wood’s vehicle.
Kapp and Koehler were not wearing seat belts, while Wood was wearing a seat belt. Troopers indicated they weren’t able to determine if the children were using seat belts.
