Woman hit by car at Ninth, Carpenter streets

A 57-year-old Chatham woman who was walking in the crosswalk at Ninth and Carpenter streets about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday was struck by a vehicle attempting to turn.

Ruth A. Laird was treated at St. John’s Hospital and released.

The motorist, Nathan C. Bost, 26, of Chatham, said he was driving south on Ninth and did not see Laird as he attempted to turn east on Carpenter. Laird said she had the walk signal while passing through the intersection.

Bost was cited for failure to yield right of way to a pedestrian.
