Child in accident hospitalized
Three people, including a 2-month-old child, were taken to St. John’s Hospital after a crash at Fifth and Oak streets at 4:35 p.m. Friday, police reported.
All three people were treated and released.
Niti N. Patel, 20, of the 500 block of West Elliot Avenue was southbound on Fifth Street and collided with another southbound driver, Jamie L. Sandstrom, 17, of the 3000 block of South Second Street.
A witness said Patel’s vehicle crossed two lanes of traffic to turn right on Oak.
Patel, as well as two passengers in her vehicle, Tierra D. Allen, 18, of the 1800 block of South Seventh Street and Rakeen J. Sutton, 2 months old, of the 500 block of West Elliott Avenue, were injured.
A witness said the child was sitting between the car seat and car door at the time of the crash.
Paramedics also stated the car seat in Patel’s vehicle was not tightened enough to strap in a child.
Patel was cited for not properly restraining a child, improper lane usage and driving without liability insurance.
