Pedestrian OK after being struck by vehicle near Statehouse

A 25-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle while crossing Second Street in front of the Statehouse Tuesday morning has been treated and released from St. John’s Hospital.

A southbound vehicle hit Ryan L. Taylor of Naperville as he crossed Second Street while walking east on Capitol Avenue about 9:50 a.m. Tuesday. Taylor said he was not sure if the walk signal indicated it was safe to cross.

The driver, Michelle M. Pawlak, 39, of Springfield, said she was southbound on Second, when a pedestrian ran in front of her vehicle. Three witnesses said Pawlak and other southbound drivers had a green light at the intersection.

Taylor was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
