Thayer teen killed in Oregon County crash

A Thayer teen died Tuesday afternoon when his vehicle collided with an ambulance on U.S. 63 north of Koshkonong, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Elisha J. Pounders, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:05 p.m. crash two miles north of Koshkonong in Oregon County.

The crash occurred when the northbound 2004 GMC Envoy that Pounders was driving went out of control and skidded into the path of a southbound 2011 Freightliner ambulance driven by James C. Burkshire, 44, of West Plains.

The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to overturn.

Burkshire and a passenger in the ambulance, Fonda M. Holder, 46, of Cabool, were taken to Ozark Medical Center in West Plains for treatment of moderate injuries.

Pounders was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the patrol.
