Three injured in collision
Three people involved in a crash at MacArthur Boulevard and Monroe Street Monday night were hospitalized.
The two-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Traffic was blocked at the intersection for more than 30 minutes. The injuries to the three victims were all considered non-life-threatening, police said.
At least two of the victims were taken away on stretchers to a hospital.
The accident involved an SUV and a mini van. The minivan was knocked onto its passenger side toward the southeast corner of the intersection.
The SUV, which suffered extensive front-end damage, was resting on top of the curb next to the mini van.
Police said the SUV driver’s foot slipped off the brake pedal, causing the vehicle to enter the intersection against the red light. The minivan was eastbound on Monroe when it was struck by the SUV, police said.
Daryl Giacomini, 31, who lives near the site of the accident, said he saw a woman climb out of the mini van after the accident.
