Collinsville man killed, 3 injured in crash along Caseyville Road
A Collinsville man was killed Monday afternoon and three people in a minivan were injured when two vehicles collided on Caseyville Road, police say.
The victim's grandfather, John Caswell, identified the dead man as Eugene Caswell, 32, of the 100 block of Idlerun Drive in Collinsville. Eugene Caswell was alone in a car that was apparently speeding, police say.
The names of the three injured people have not been released.
The crash happened at about 4 p.m. Monday on Caseyville Road near the intersection of Erie Place, according to a news release by Police Major Tom Coppotelli.
Eugene Caswell died at the scene.
Two of the injured were adults with serious injuries, Coppotelli said. The third was a child with less serious injuries. Police did not release the names or ages of the people who were hurt in the crash.
The Collinsville Police Department and the St. Clair County coroner's office are investigating the crash. Police say their initial findings are that Caswell may have been speeding and may be at fault for the collision.
The police summary did not say which direction the vehicles were going. The coroner's investigatior on the case could not be reached.
