Fatal crash reported in Phelps County

An Imperial man died this morning in a two-vehicle crash near Rolla, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol

Jimmie J. Gantz, 50, was pronounced dead at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla about one h our after the 9:40 a.m. crash on Route O three miles south of Rolla.

Aaron P. Pederson, 23, of Anutt, refused medical treatment for minor injuries.

The crash occurred when the northbound 2005 Chevrolet Aveo that Gantz was driving crossed the centerline and sideswiped the southbound 1997 Ford pickup that Pederson was driving.

Both vehicles ran off the roadway.

Gantz was not wearing a seat belt, but Pederson was, according to the patrol.
