Motorcyclist killed in head-on crash

A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a car early Sunday when he drove west in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 50 west of Missouri 291.

Nicholas A. McFerren of Blue Springs was declared dead at the scene about 1:23 a.m., according to an accident report filed by the Missouri Highway Patrol. The report does not indicate that the driver of the car, a 17-year-old from Independence, suffered significant injuries.

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
