Two car accidents near White Oaks Mall

Two car accidents occurred within two hours of each other at Veterans Parkway and Wabash Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

The first involved a 38-year-old Springfield woman who rear-ended a 74-year-old Naperville woman with her vehicle at 12:22 p.m., police said.

Shannon D. George of the 1400 block of Lake Point Court said she thought Patricia J. Edwards had turned onto Veterans from Wabash. Edwards said she pulled forward but then stopped for oncoming traffic. George was cited for speeding.

The second accident occurred at 2:13 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Nicol A. Lee, 21, of the 2100 block of Carl Sandburg Lane rear-ended another motorist at the same intersection. Lee said she attempted to make a right turn on Wabash and hit the vehicle in front of her.

Jagrutiben M. Patel, 39, of the 400 block of Merryman Lane said he was waiting for traffic to clear when his vehicle was rear-ended.

Lee was cited for speeding and driving without liability insurance.
