I-35 crash critically injures pregnant motorist
A rush hour hit-and-run crash critically injured a pregnant woman this morning and created a backup along northbound Interstate 35 in Johnson County that stretched to Gardner.
Emergency crews extricated the 33-year-old woman from the crash that occurred about 6:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-35 near the weigh station, just north of West 167th Street.
The woman's vehicle collided with a semitrailer. The semitrailer left the scene of the crash and authorities are looking for the driver, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The highway patrol is asking for help in finding the driver and semi. Witnesses described the truck as a semitrailer with an enclosed box. Evidence suggests that the truck may have ice built up on it from traveling through icy areas.
The truck should have significant damage to the rear end protection system of the trailer.
Witnesses were unable to provide a color or markings for the semitrailer.
