Fatal wreck shuts down highway ramp on Interstate 470

A Kansas City woman was killed when a car crashed into her car as it was stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 470 in Lee’s Summit Monday.

Virginia F. Bruce, 40, who was the driver of the car on the shoulder, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bruce’s car was stopped on the side of westbound 470 near Pryor Road around 3 p.m. when it was hit by a car driven by Crystal R. McCoy, 36, also of Kansas City, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported.

The accident shut down the entrance ramp from Pryor Road for more than two hours.

McCoy suffered moderate injuries and a passenger in Bruce’s car, Mary S. Bowers, 42, of Kansas City, suffered minor injuries
