Montgomery County accident injures two

An accident on Illinois 127 in Montgomery County injured two people Wednesday, Illinois State Police said.

Tricia L. Northcutt, 25, of Taylor Springs, was going south about 1 p.m., and attempted to turn right onto East Street in Taylor Springs. As she turned, her car was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Brittany N. Phillips, 20, of Donnellson, state police said Thursday.

A passenger in Phillips’ car, Zachary Umek, 33, of Hillsboro, sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Northcutt sustained serious injuries and was taken to Hillsboro Area Hospital, state police said.

The hospital would not release any information on her condition.

Phillips was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, state police said.
