In the state of Missouri, all drivers are required to have coverage with a minimum of 25/50 – meaning that for every individual, there is a coverage of $25,000 and coverage of $50,000 should there be two or more individuals who are injured in an accident. While legal, this does not always cover the full extent of damages that are incurred in a car accident. For this reason, it is often recommended that drivers invest in what is known as underinsured motorist coverage (UIM) in the state of Missouri. Should you have this type of coverage and are involved in an accident with someone who has the minimum, your own insurance company should step forward and cover the rest of the costs. For example, if your UIM policy is worth $100,000 and the other driver’s insurance covers only $25,000, you are owed another $75,000 to cover all damages.
